Care to share a little about yourself?
Whether you’re planning a concert or event, spreading the word on a new business or publicizing an emerging musician, marketing and promotions are the keys to building public awareness in your brand. As the old saying goes, marketing doesn’t cost; it pays. And Dallas-based marketing specialist Louis Anthony has been receiving dividends for quite some time now for his impeccable abilities.

“Marketing is building awareness for your event- from word of mouth to passing out flyers to online,” the 26-year-old go-getter contends. “If you don’t have awareness, you cannot expect a great outcome.”

From humble days as street promoter for independent Dallas artists to working behind the scenes of TJs DJs Tastemakers Only Conference to holding down project manager position for Diva Dend Entertainment’s national PPR 101 Conference, Louis Anthony demands results.

“Marketing has always been my passion,” Anthony admits. “Ever since I was younger, my momma always told me I couldn’t sit still. And it grew with me. I’m always trying to make something happen for myself wherever I go.”

Born in the great state of Texas, Anthony was raised between Dallas’ Oak Cliff community and the west side’s Edgar Ward Projects, which are now torn down. Although he was surrounded by the negativity of the neighborhood, young Louis knew in his heart that he was destined for bigger and better things.

So in 2005, he started doing street promotions for local reggae artist name J Santos and Hip-Hop artist Shot. Anthony handed out flyers, hung up posters and set up shows for his artists. He quickly learned the ropes in grassroots promotions and continued to further build onto his resume by playing an integral role as a volunteer promotions manager for the annual Texas Summer Music Conference. He cut his teeth as a TJs DJs quarterly Tastemakers Only Conference and the 2007 Ozone Magazine Awards in Houston. His duties for both events included registration, helping with backstage setup and working listening suites.

Adding more bullet points to his resume thereafter, he held down marketing for Party Chasers, a promotions company that held upscale events around Dallas. And if that were not enough, he made an even bigger name for himself as a contributing writer for Hip-Hop website thamod.com.

“I love to plan, see my visions come together and watch my expectations unfold,” he says. “I gained a lot of knowledge and experience, but I had been working for so many other people for so long that I wanted to do something on my own.”

So after soaking up all of the knowledge he could, Anthony decided to host a rapper freestyle battle event aimed in 2008. But unfortunately, the event flopped. And the young entrepreneur was back at the drawing board.

“That failed event built up a lot of fire in me,” he admits. “It didn’t discourage me. It made me go harder.”

Nowadays, Anthony is working even harder. He is currently responsible for marketing, promoting, event coordinating, project management for Atlanta-based Diva Dend Entertainment’s national Professional Public Relations 101 Conference. He also is sales consultant and marketing/ promotions for Dallas-based Internet radio station at KMG. And in addition, he is field promotions manager for Dallas’ Jengerbread Marketing. Anthony will stop at nothing short of greatness.

“You can achieve anything that’s in your heart,” he advises. “Keep grinding and learn from individuals on a higher level than you are. Be focused on your future.”
